Carbon Circularity & Energy in the Chemistry and Steel Sector

14 April 2021 @ 14:00 - 16:00

Moonshot research focusses, in first instance, on the target sectors chemistry, petrochemistry and steel. The challenges faced by these sectors are closely connected, especially in the field of energy. To stimulate “cross-pollination” between the (process) chemistry, steel and energy sectors, Moonshot is kindly inviting all relevant academic experts and researchers to an interactive online meeting on Carbon Circularity & Energy in the Chemistry and Steel Sectors on Wednesday 14 April (14-16h).

During the meeting, experts will provide more insight into energy-related challenges in chemical processes and energy-intensive sectors. Their short presentations are followed by an open, interactive debate. Participants have the opportunity to pose questions, exchange ideas with other experts, and broaden their understanding of the energy-related challenges faced by the Moonshot target sectors. This will allow participants to finetune current and future Moonshot project proposals, as well as improve their alignment with industry needs. In short, the meeting provides the ideal platform to gather information and gain inspiration.

Agenda

  • Introduction & context (by prof. Lieve Helsen, KU Leuven/EnergyVille and MOT4 spokesperson)
  • Presentations by experts from three sectors: Marc Van Breda (BASF) and Tony Van Osselaer (Covestro) for the chemistry industry, Carl De Maré (ArcelorMittal) for the steel sector, and Bob Van Schoor (Engie) for the energy sector
  • Interactive debate (moderated by prof. Lieve Helsen)
  • Conclusions (by prof. Lieve Helsen)
